Netflix “Update Household” Not Working: Fixes
The Update Household flow sends a verification email or link to the account owner. When something goes wrong, it’s usually one of these.
1. The email never arrived
Check the spam and promotions folders, and confirm the message went to the email address on the Netflix account, which may not be the one you use most. Wait a few minutes before requesting another.
2. The link expired
Verification links are time-limited. Request a new one and open it right away. Older links stop working once a newer one is issued.
3. You opened it on the wrong network
Generally the link must be opened on a device connected to the same Wi-Fi as the TV you are updating. Opening it on mobile data can fail.
4. Too many changes
Netflix limits how often the household can be changed. If you’ve changed it recently, you may be blocked from doing it again for a while. Contact Netflix support to ask.
5. You’re on a laptop and just want to watch
Updating the household moves the “home” for everyone on the account. If the account owner still lives at the old address, that may be the wrong move. For laptop viewing, the browser extension avoids changing anything on the account.
Tip: Never enter your Netflix password on a site reached from an unexpected email. Use the Netflix app or netflix.com directly.
