How Household Verification Works

Household verification answers one question: is this device usually on the account owner’s home network?

The three signals

Public IP address

Every home connection presents a public IP. Netflix compares yours with the one most often seen for the account.

Device identifiers

Apps and browsers carry identifiers. A device that recently streamed from home may stay trusted for a while.

Activity patterns

Regular viewing from the main location builds trust. Sudden activity from many networks looks unusual.

Why legitimate users get blocked

Shared IPs (hotels, campuses), travel and moving can all look like account sharing even when they’re not.

Where the extension fits

On laptops, the extension manages the verification prompt inside your browser and has a toggle in its popup. Try the interactive demo. It’s a browser tool, so it doesn’t run on TVs or phones (TV & Mobile).
