Netflix Temporary Access Code: How It Works
If a device is outside the household, Netflix may offer to let you watch temporarily with a one-time code.
How it works
- Choose the temporary watching option on the block screen.
- Netflix sends a code to the account owner by email or text.
- Enter the code on the device. Netflix says access lasts for a limited period (about a week).
Why it often fails
- The owner isn’t around: only the account owner receives the code, so someone must share it with you.
- Code expired: codes are short-lived. Request a new one.
- Too many requests: Netflix limits how many you can request.
- Wrong contact: the code goes to the email or phone on file.
Better for long stays
A temporary code only covers a few days. For regular viewing away from home, compare the other options. On a laptop, the extension avoids repeating the code dance.
